Augmented Reality

Technology layers reality and a touch of magic to make the world around students come to life with Augmented Reality (AR) apps. From creating or attaching a book trailer to a book cover, to attaching students' videos telling about their work to a picture of their work, the options are limitless.  It's not just videos though, becuase so many companies are creating apps to help students interact with the world around them.  Students can now safetly hold chemical elements and combining them in the palm of their hands to see how they react without the mess or cost of chemicals.  Students can even interact with animal habitats and environments that they might not be able to visit.

Not only can you make these but your students can as well.  Aurasma is a great platform to create your own AR.  You need 3 things:

  1. An Aurasma account to house your AR

  2. A base picture that your viewers will scan to view your content (i.e. picture of your choice or one created by you),

  3. A video that will layer over your base picture.

Added bonus - Once your students have viewed the Augmented Reality app, one focus that you can have is writing.  Explaining that reflecting on what they have viewed, either in a story format or informational, will help them to think about what they have seen.
